SD Method Danışmanlık

 

The 16th International Symposium on Building Mechanical Systems Technologies, organized by TTMD under the main theme of “Embedded Energy and Carbon Emissions in HVAC System Design,” was held virtually on October 22-24, 2024. This was the third time TTMD hosted the symposium in a virtual format, attracting over 500 individual attendees from more than 20 countries.

The symposium featured 7 sessions and 1 panel across 9 main topics, with a total of 24 hours of broadcast over four days. Numerous interactions were established with national and international organizations for the event.

Opening Speeches

Tuba Bingöl Altıok (Symposium Organizing Committee Chair):
Emphasized COP28 decisions and stated that the symposium’s main theme was determined as reducing carbon and emission values.

Nermin Köroğlu Isın (TTMD Chairperson):
Highlighted the importance of reducing the carbon footprint in the HVAC sector and promoting sustainable practices. Described the symposium as an action platform bringing academia and industry together.

Francis Allard:
In his presentation titled “From Energy Efficiency to Carbon Neutrality”, discussed the transition to zero-emission buildings in Europe and addressed the new EPBD regulations within the scope of the EU’s greenhouse gas reduction targets.

New HVAC System Design Approaches

  • Emre Özmen: Shared insights on the commissioning process and its benefits for HVAC systems in data centers.
  • Prof. Dr. Ahmet Arısoy: Spoke about studies on hybrid cooling systems for different climates.

Sustainability and Circular Economy

  • Gülcan Ergün: Provided information on the implementation of the EU Circular Economy Action Plan within the framework of sustainability.

Panel: Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions Throughout a Building’s Lifecycle

  • Thomas Lützkendorf: Presented an overview of lifecycle assessments for buildings.
  • Samet Yılancı: Discussed Turkey’s 2053 net-zero carbon targets and the roadmap to achieve them.

Closing
Tuba Bingöl Altıok expressed gratitude to all participants, describing the event as a starting point for the 17th symposium.
